Access Statement For The Tree Relaxation Retreat, Rosedale East, Pickering

​

Introduction

We aim to cater for the needs of all who visit The Tree. We have 8 guest bedrooms, 2 of which are on the ground floor. One of these rooms is a family / triple room, which is close to the front entrance. The other 6 bedrooms are all on the first floor level.


Rosedale East is approx 2 miles from the village of Rosedale Abbey. It is a very hilly area, The Tree is built on the side of a hill, has 2 levels at the front of the property and 3 at the back. It has steps most of the way round it, and the outdoor hot tub is only accessible via steps.


It should be noted that there is no mobile phone reception in this area, so a public payphone is provided for your use. The Tree is a licensed premises and we always stock a good selection of wines and some beers  for guests.

The following statement is a summary of our provision.

Pre-Arrival

We are located approximately 2 miles from the village of Rosedale Abbey, 12 miles from Pickering and 20 miles from Whitby.


The main railway station is at Malton (connections to York), 40 minutes away by car.
There are a number of local taxi services that have accessible taxis if required, but we are happy to make a booking for you. There is a small railway station at Castleton Moor, which is 15 minutes away by taxi.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so that we can be sure we are here to welcome you.
On arrival, we ask all guests to drive into the  car park at the rear of the property. Please do not park on the road at the front of the property. The entrance is lit when we are expecting guests to arrive. The main entrance is at the end of the building on the car park level with a small porch. Please ring the bell and enter.


The car park has a level gravel surface with adequate parking for up to 10 cars.


We are able to assist guests with luggage if this is required.


There is a public (unisex) toilet immediately inside the main entrance door (tiled floor).

Main Entrance & Reception

The porch entrance provides direct access to the lower ground floor. From here there are 12 stairs, average height 18cm, to the main ground floor – the stairs are laid with carpet. The door is only locked at night, but we do have a bell press on the external frame, at a height of 160cm. The porch and entrance doors are both approx 83cm wide. There is a round wooden grab rail to the left coming up the stairs.


A fire safety door leads to the main ground floor area. There is direct access from here to the dining room, guest lounge, 2 ground floor bedrooms and the main stairs to the first floor guest rooms.

Public Areas – General (Internal)

​

Our dining room, guest lounge, en-suite family / triple room and one twin bedded en-suite room are on the ground floor. All rooms and all public areas are laid with fitted carpets.


There are a further 13 stairs leading to a small landing / turn followed by a further 3 or 4 stairs to the upper landing and first floor bedrooms. There are 2 twin / double en-suite rooms, 2 twin en-suite rooms, 1 twin bedded room with a separate toilet / basin and separate shower (private use only!) and 1 twin bedded room with a separate full house bathroom (private use only). There is a wide corridor accessing all of these rooms.


There is no sharing of toilet / bathroom facilities for any bedrooms.


All en-suite facilities, toilets and bathrooms have ceramic tiled floors.

Dining Room

Breakfast is served in our Dining Room on the ground floor and is accessed from our Reception Hall. The entry is level and the door width is 83cm. The room is laid out with 1 very long dining table seating all guests together to make the most of the stunning views from this room. Chairs are without arms. There is a fruit bowl for guests to use at all times, together with a very substantial selection of herbal / fruit teas.


The Tree is  a vegetarian premises.
Vegetarian, vegan, gluten / dairy free and all other diets can be catered for.

Laundry

Laundry facilities are not normally available on the premises.

Local Shops

Rosedale Abbey (at 2 miles) has a newsagent / tearoom / general store. There is a Co-op food store at Castleton (15 minutes by car). There is a good range of general shops / supermarket and street market (Mondays only) at Pickering (approx 12 miles). Kirkbymoorside (approx 10 miles) has a good selection of shops and a market on Wednesday.

Leisure Facilities

The Tree has a very large outdoor (covered) hot tub, a sauna (lower ground floor) and offers an extensive range of holistic therapies and treatments. The guest lounge is always available for use, with an interesting selection of books, local history books, and maps. The lounge has a large open fire, and 3 very large soft leather sofas plus bean bags. There are no additional charges for reasonable use of these facilities during your stay. Wifi is freely available throughout the house.

Outdoor Facilities

There is a very large, south facing garden with stunning views across the valley to the moors in the distance. There are a number of garden chairs and benches available for usel. The area is ideal for walking and cycling in safe surroundings. The area is very rich in wildlife. There is a small golf course in the village of Rosedale Abbey (at 2 miles).

Bedrooms

There is central heating throughout the house. The temperature of each guest bedroom is controlled by thermostatic controls on the radiators. The beds are made with all-season duvets, covered with a throw. There are additional throws in each room. Each bedroom has a ‘hospitality tray’ with tea, coffee and kettle. Each room has storage space which usually consists of a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside cabinet.

Ground floor: Guest bedroom no.1 is an en-suite family / triple room with 3 single beds. This can be configured as a double plus single provided prior notice is given.

Additional Information

Unfortunately our rooms are not suitable for dogs.
We generally don't accept children, except on certain occasions.


There is no mobile phone reception but we do have wi-fi.
We are totally non-smoking. 

​

There are fire extinguishers in all appropriate public places, as recommended by the fire service. Evacuation procedure notices can be found in all rooms. There are no fire alarm tests while guests are present. We are able to use all 4 doors should evacuation be necessary. The fire alarm rings continuously if evacuation is needed. If you need assistance in this kind of emergency (eg hearing impairment) please let us know on arrival and we will ensure that you are evacuated safely.

A small fridge can be made available for medication etc.

A selection of local information is available in our displays in the porch. Local interest books are available in the guest lounge which include information about the ironstone industry in Rosedale.

There is a folder in each guest bedroom which gives tourist information about Yorkshire Moors and Coast and the surrounding area.
